Everything in the release is one side’s account: the claims and conclusions of the current ODNI leadership. We frame them throughout as “the report says…”, not as proven fact. The origin of COVID-19 (a lab accident or a natural animal spillover) and whether Dr. Fauci did anything wrong are still debated. Fauci denies funding research that created the virus, and denies lying to Congress. Dr. Anthony Fauci
For decades he ran NIAID, a top U.S. government infectious-disease agency. During COVID he was the most visible U.S. public-health official. The report puts him at the center.数十年にわたり、米政府の感染症の中核機関NIAIDの所長を務めた人物。COVID禍では、米国で最も顔の知られた公衆衛生の責任者でした。報告書は彼を中心人物として描いています。
NIAID / NIH
NIH = National Institutes of Health, the main U.S. medical-research funder. NIAID is its infectious-disease branch, which Fauci led. Gain-of-function (GoF) research

“Proximal Origin” paper
An influential March 2020 scientific paper concluding COVID looked naturally evolved, not engineered. - The origin of COVID is not settled. The single most important rule on this topic: proximity is not causation. “Fauci” and “Japan” appear together in many true facts (a Japan-affiliated grantee, a Japanese honor, Japanese pandemic controversies), but in most cases they are simply side by side, not cause and effect. We apply the same skepticism to anti-Fauci and pro-Fauci claims. Where a popular claim is false, we say so; where a real, documented criticism exists, we say that too.
